Fiberseal – Terms & Conditions of Service

Effective Date: 1st July 2025

These Terms and Conditions (“Agreement”) govern all services provided by Fiberseal, including cleaning, stain protection (Fibersealing), flame retardant treatment, anti-allergy treatment, and specialist care for rugs, carpets, upholstery, leather, and soft furnishings.

By booking our services, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to the following:

1. General Service Terms

1.1 Inspection & Limitations: Prior to commencing work, we will assess the condition of the item(s) to the best of our ability. However, not all pre-existing damage or fibre weaknesses are visible or detectable before cleaning or treatment.

1.2 No Guarantee of Complete Restoration: While we use industry-leading methods and products, we do not guarantee the complete removal of stains, odours, or pre-existing damage.

1.3 Colour Fastness & Shrinkage: We cannot accept liability for colour bleed, fading, pile reversal, shrinkage, stretching, distortion, or other damage caused by inherent faults or poor construction, dye stability, or the age/condition of the fibres.

1.4 Service Refusal: We reserve the right to decline service if we believe the item is unsuitable for treatment or if a significant risk of irreversible damage exists.

2. Fabrics, Fibres & Materials – Disclaimer of Liability

Velcon Fiberseal accepts no responsibility for damage resulting from characteristic weaknesses or inherent faults in the following types of materials:

2.1 Viscose, Rayon & Artificial Silk Rugs or Upholstery

  • These fibres are made from regenerated cellulose (wood pulp) and are structurally weak, highly absorbent, and prone to damage from moisture, heat, or abrasion.

  • Cleaning may cause yellowing, pile distortion, hardening, delamination, texture changes, or fibre loss.

  • Over time, the cut pile can develop a “burnt” or “singed” look at the fibre tips, which is irreversible.

  • We have developed a specialist wet-cleaning process when dry cleaning is insufficient; however, this is carried out entirely at the client’s risk.

  • Velcon Fiberseal accepts no responsibility for any damage to viscose/rayon items before, during, or after treatment.

  • These rugs/fabrics are not fit for purpose in high-use environments, especially with children or pets.

2.2 Natural Fibres

Includes wool, silk, cotton, jute, sisal, hemp, coir, seagrass, and other plant or animal-derived materials.

  • These fibres are subject to fading, browning, shrinkage, discolouration, and distortion due to age, moisture sensitivity, and fibre structure.

  • Hand-knotted or hand-loomed items may contain dyes that are not colourfast, and damage can occur even under gentle cleaning.

  • Jute, hemp, and sisal are highly absorbent and prone to browning or rotting when wet.

  • We accept no liability for damage caused by inherent defects, pre-existing wear, or the nature of the material itself.

2.3 Synthetic Fibres

Includes polypropylene, polyester, acrylic, nylon, and blends.

  • Some synthetics may contain low-melting-point fibres that deform under heat or friction.

  • Poorly constructed synthetic upholstery or rugs (e.g. glued-back, tufted items) may delaminate or shed excessively.

  • Fibre fill cushions or certain foams may be discoloured or altered by cleaning processes.

  • Flame retardant treatments may wear off over time, and reapplication does not guarantee flame resistance under all conditions.

3. Stain Protection – Fibersealing

3.1 What It Does: Fibersealing helps protect fibres from staining and prolongs the life of fabrics by repelling liquids and dirt.

3.2 What It Doesn’t Do:

  • It does not make fibres bulletproof against wear, abrasion, or heavy staining (e.g. oils, dyes, pet urine).

  • It cannot restore damaged or weakened fibres or reverse the effects of previous spills, fading, or ageing.

3.3 Limitations on Viscose & Delicate Fibres:

  • Fibersealing helps protect these fibres but does not change their basic fragility.

  • As above, no responsibility is accepted for fibre failure after application.

4. Flame Retardant Treatments

4.1 Applied using Flametect Nitro or equivalent.
4.2 Applied according to manufacturer guidelines and compliance standards.
4.3 Client is responsible for ensuring certification is appropriate for their industry or fire safety authority.
4.4 Some fabrics may discolour slightly after treatment. We test first where possible.

5. Anti-Allergy & Anti-Microbial Treatments

5.1 We use Fiberseal + BioShield or similar, designed to neutralise dust mites, bacteria, and allergens.
5.2 We do not guarantee specific medical results, as sensitivities vary per individual.
5.3 Application is non-toxic and safe once dry.

6. Client Responsibilities

6.1 Pre-Service Requirements: Clients must ensure the area is accessible, furniture is moved if required, and pets/children are kept away during and after treatment until items are dry.

6.2 Disclosure: Clients must inform us of any prior treatments, repairs, or known issues with fabrics or fibres.

6.3 Aftercare: Clients are responsible for ensuring treated items are kept dry and ventilated during the drying period and that no further damage occurs post-treatment.

7. Liability

7.1 No Liability for Inherent Flaws: As outlined above, we accept no liability for issues arising from inherent fibre flaws, poor construction, non-colourfast dyes, or age-related wear.

7.2 Maximum Liability: If Fiberseal is found liable for any damage (excluding exclusions above), liability is strictly limited to the cost of cleaning. No responsibility is accepted for consequential losses.

7.3 Insurance: Velcon Fiberseal holds full public liability and treatment risk insurance. However, this does not override the limitations outlined above.

8. Cancellations & Fees

8.1 Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice may incur a call-out fee.

8.2 Missed appointments where access is not provided may result in a full service charge.

9. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Ireland. Any disputes will be resolved under Irish jurisdiction.

10. Acceptance of Terms

By engaging Fiberseal’s services, the client agrees to all terms and conditions stated above.
